I'm talking about doing the whole thing (theory + pool + checkout dives) at a tourist destination, where students won't spend more than 1 or 2 days having lessons in a pool (which is why I wrote "a couple of pool sessions is not enough to really learn the fundamentals of scuba diving"). because of a strong not talking about doing only the checkout dives at a tourist destination. That's why I see so many terrible divers out there (I've seen an Argentinian lady with over 100 dives have a panic attack at 3 feet deep. ![]() The standards are pretty low for becoming, for example, a PADI instructor (100 dives is a joke. The fact that someone is a scuba instructor doesn't mean he/she's' a good diver, least a good teacher. but the most important thing in this case is where your wife is gonna learn to dive. Most likely that people here are gonna tell you how good the boat is, how the surface interval is, how the food, transfer or whatever is. If you live in Oregon, find a good dive shop nearby, have her practice with a local instructor who's gonna help her develop as a diver, not someone who's gonna rush things so that he can get her money as fast as possible. a couple of pool sessions is not enough to really learn the fundamentals of scuba diving. Given all that is going on, we have narrowed it down to these few so far, still waiting to hear back from Dive with Martin, he has been ill and emails have been a bit behind. ( we realize with discover SCUBA our max depth is 40ft). Dive with wife and 19 YO son on a few boat dives. Myself and my 22 YO will take a refresher course, been 2 years since our last dive. 19 YO son is doing a discover Scuba to see if he likes it and will get certified down the road Wife is getting her Open Water Cert the week we are there ( book work at home) See our request below, all have come back with a schedule ( prices are all about the same). All dive diveshops have been very responsive thus far helping us plan things out. I have searched this forum and have also done some research on some other websites as well.
